She did it!
Greta (the dog) arrived tonite and made it through inspection
with out a hitch. Greta, however, is a tired girl, having flown
from Portland to San Fran to Oahu in a kennel. I would be too.

The folks at Animal Quarantine are very strict and you have to
escort the animals of location in their kennels. Knowing this,
when I purchased my 98 Exploder, I did the height measurements.
No prob, the kennel would fit in the truck easily. What I didn't
do was measure the hatch of the truck....oooopsy. The kennel
would have to be disassembled to make it fit.

The sweet woman, who was helping me said she would go inside,
and since it was dark, would not see me breaking any rules.
Thank you sweet woman.

Greta is now in her new home and rehydrated enough that she was able
to mark her territory on the freshly laid carpet.

She should rest now, for tomorrow begins her great adventure.

Greta

Greta is a dog.
Specifically, she is the dog that joined our family about three years ago.
The Oregon Humane Society, truly a great bunch of folks, had taken her in
from a couple that were unable to take care of her for health reasons.
After much time searching for just the right new friend to bring home,
I recieved a call from my wife.

"You have to come down here right now" I recognized the tone of voice.
This was close to the one that she used to say "yes", when I proposed.
I left work and drove as fast as I could to the Humane Society, where
my wife was anxiously waiting outside.

Indeed, this was the dog-shaggy, big floppy ears, sad eyes. She was
was coming home with us, all three of us knew it.

Greta is a good dog. Although very timid at first, she has become the
protector of our household, and the companion of our small family.
That is why I'm so excited that today is the day of her arrival.

The process of bringing your dog to Hawaii is more than a little bit
expensive, and fairly complicated and stressful. Assuming that
all goes well at quarantine, she should be to her new home around
8:30pm island time(I like saying island time)

I'll be sure to go into further detail about the doggy move thing,
but would like to say thanks do much to Vanessa at OATS pet travel,
for making this as painless, as it could be. Although, it's kind of
like thanking the dentist for waiting that minute after the
numby injection, before he starts drilling.

Better late than never

Originally, I had planned to start blogging the day that I arrived in Hawaii.
The internet access was a little bit shaky, so I decided to wait til I got in an apartment. Well, the internet access is even sketchier here, but why let that stand in the way.
There has been much to do, to get settled in and I'm still not even close. For instance: my wife is not here yet, my dog arrives tomorrow evening, and that pesky job thing...gotta do something about the job thing.
I reckon that I'll feel more settled with time as well. I've been in Oahu 11 days,
which, technically, constitutes little more than a vacation. Well, let consider vacation time over and get back to work...
